Sugar Loaf United Methodist Church
Even the youngest children understand the concepts of mission. During our Children's Time in Church when we were blessing the Shoe Boxes for Operation Christmas Child when asked what the brightly wrapped boxes contained, the youngest (a 3 year old) responded "toys for children that have no toys."
From nursery through adult, we offer classes that ground our members and their children in the stories and lessons of the Bible. Activities bring the lessons to life. Enthusiastic teachers demonstrate the love of God in their interactions with all.
Our Faithful Friday youth classes meet on Friday evenings beginning at 5:00. Classes run from the first Friday in October through the last Friday in May. This allows our children and youth to worship with the entire faith community as well as to participate. They take on the responsibilities of acolyte, choir members, and readers. Each year the youth take over the whole service and lead the congregation in moving and inspired prayer and song and touch the hearts of all who attend. Nursery care is provided for those just too little or squirmy to sit through the entire service!
Then there are the annual Christmas and Easter pageants. What better way for a child to learn the story of the birth of Jesus than to be an angel or a shepherd or a modern day Wise Man? How better can the mystery of Jesus' last days on earth be conveyed than by having the youth and children recreate the scenes of prayer and betrayal and the joy of Resurrection? Gently and carefully scripted, our children find, through hours of practice and sharing, the wonder of God's love for all of us.
